Playing Catch-Up

For those of you interested in keeping up with my online trivialities-- which now includes my job-- here is the RSS feed to my posts on AMC. If you click that link, you can also subscribe so that you'll be notified whenever something new goes up. Or just look to your right, on the sidebar of this blog!

So far I'm posting to the MonsterFest blog pretty much every day, but I usually have something up on Future of Classic as well. Today I got to write a bit about my favorite Western, Rio Bravo, so keep your eyes peeled for that! Also, my roundup of Cloverfield reviews led me to this one at Salon, which pretty much hits the nail on the head as far as I'm concerned. Though I cheated and saw a picture of the monster online before I saw the movie, so I hardly went in as a virgin. Occupational hazard! Anyway, enjoy.

Fear[s] of the Dark

I've been incredibly busy working two jobs until my old job wraps up on the 25th. The best thing so far about my writing job, though, is stumbling across exciting things that I can't wait to see. Check out this trailer of Fear[s] of the Dark, an animated horror film that seems almost too good to be true:

WE WILL WHOOP YOU!

If you recall, this summer I posted about Under the Table's latest performance of SOLO: A Two-Person Show. Well, since I'm all about reruns lately, I thought I'd pass along this video from one of their previous shows, Fever Pitch, in which The Department of Homeland Security has hired the services of the PR firm Sedatem, Cheatham, and Hyde to help people understand the War on Terror. Here's a clip of them performing "AmeriCan-Can":

Jimmy Gone M.I.A.

I posted the video for M.I.A.'s Jimmy last summer, but it wasn't until the other day that I got to see (thanks to Chris) a video of the Bollywood song that inspired M.I.A.'s version. I've thrown in a video of Chinese dancers that has been floating around online for some time, which Miz M. clearly drew inspiration from as well:

What have you changed your mind about?

Every year Edge asks a question, and gets leading brains and professionals from every field answer it. The results take you far out of your own mind and world and let you catch a glimpse of the wheels that turn the world. Or they just give you new things to argue about with your friends. Either way, the 2008 question has been unveiled:

What have you changed your mind about?

Check out previous years' questions here. I was particularly a fan of "What do you believe is true even though you cannot prove it?" in 2005.

Auld Lang Syne

Here's a lovely Auld Lang Syne for you to enjoy. And another. Are you having a happy new year yet? How about now?

I am. I was assigned to write a bit about Bruce LaBruce's new gay zombie flick Otto; or, Up With Dead People. My hunt for fresh details (or even a trailer) was fruitless, so I decided to try to get in touch with LaBruce myself and see what was up with the movie.

To my great surprise, he got back to me right away-- so instead of a simple article announcing the upcoming premiere of the movie at Sundance, I got to break an actual interview with the filmmaker. Bruce was incredibly gracious and I hope his movie raises hell on the festival circuit.

As for the rest of the year, we'll see. I'll consider this a good omen.
